An Edda is an Old Norse term for the poetic stories of the Vikings. The two Eddas are used by historians to understand their histories. It is only fitting that I call this company's journey an Edda because the name Kvasir Design & Fabrications comes from a character in the Prose Edda (1st Edda). Kvasir was created out of a truce between the AEsir and the Vanir. He became self-aware and so intelligent that any being, god, or mortal could ask him a question and Kvasir would know the answer. This made him a valuable tool for the gods, as even they didn't know everything. Once word got out about Kvasir's travels and encounters, Fjalar and Galar, two dwarfs, tricked, trapped, and killed Kvasir for his knowledge. Kvasir's blood was mixed with honey and the mead of poetry was made. It is said that the descendants of the people who got to have a drink of the mead of poetry are the most gifted artists, poets, and creators. Like the job of woodworking, an agreement is made between two parties, the materials are crafted and designed, and then they are refined into something truly special and shared with the world.

I chose this myth to be the foundation of this company as it reminds us that even the gods, who are supposed to know everything, still had to ask a sentient being they created. Kvasir was made from the joining of the AEsir and Vanir (the two sides of the Norse pantheon) during their alliance ceremony but became much more. That all-knowing "creation" today is the internet and the devices that get us there. When I started woodworking, the internet was one of my tools, but I found the information I needed to be hard to find and not in just one place. I hope that this site can be a tool for others when looking to gain some more knowledge. My father was and still is a wealth of knowledge when I have project questions. I credit him for helping foster my love of craft and attention to detail.

Kvasir Designs and Fabrications is a hybrid company in a way. We mostly work with wood, but we also deal with ceramics on occasion. This came from the need to fix an original work from YD Designs, my late grandparents' company where they created breathtaking pieces.

We are a veteran-owned and operated business. I will prioritize all orders in the order they are received and will provide a quote that includes pricing and when it should be ready. I will also send updates throughout the process. As lumber is expensive, change requests can and should be placed prior to cutting. After the wood is cut, I cannot edit the dimensions for free.
